The Cemetery is located one mile west and one mile north of Vigo Park.<\/p>\n<p>Mrs. Bessie C. Hall was the first person buried at this cemetery.<\/p>\n<p>Charles Gardner and J. C. Stitt rode around on their horses to locate a most likely place for it. There are a lot of tin markers that do not have names on them.<\/p>\n<p>Although it has been assumed that J. C. Stitt was buried in the Vigo Park Cemetery, he was actually buried in Marlow, Oklahoma in 1933.\u00a0 This information was furnished by Norma Stitt Finch, granddaughter of Joseph C. Stitt:<\/p>\n<div>\n<div>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;I visited Vigo Park several years ago, met Robert Gardner &#8211; he took us to\u00a0the\u00a0Vigo Park cemetery;\u00a0found the plot that shows \u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">J.C. Stitt\u00a0and\u00a0a <\/span>Stitt child buried in the Lot 6. <span style=\"font-size: inherit;\">It was apparently an assumption that he &#8216;probably&#8217; was buried there. <\/span><span style=\"font-size: inherit;\">He is actually buried in Marlow, OK died in 1933.\u00a0 As far as I know <\/span><span style=\"font-size: inherit;\">there is a child either stillborn or that died shortly after birth in <\/span><span style=\"font-size: inherit;\">the second grave. <\/span><span style=\"font-size: inherit;\">The Stitt family moved from Vigo Park moving to Colorado in the early <\/span><span style=\"font-size: inherit;\">20&#8217;s and then to Oklahoma sometime before early 1930&#8217;s.\u00a0\u00a0Joseph and <\/span><span style=\"font-size: inherit;\">second wife Myrtle are both buried in Marlow.\u00a0\u00a0She died in the mid <\/span><span style=\"font-size: inherit;\">&#8217;60&#8217;s.\u00a0 I found that he married his second wife in Wise Co TX in 1912. <\/span><span style=\"font-size: inherit;\">The Stitt and Gardner families moved from Vigo and Park Counties Indiana.\u00a0 My grandmother died before 1910; she wasn&#8217;t on the 1910 Swisher Co census.\u00a0 I believe she is buried at the Catholic cemetery in Nazareth.\u00a0\u00a0(My dad was Frank Stitt the eldest of 5).&#8221;<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<h3>The following information may have errors or may not be up to date.
